As a gift for his 30th birthday, I treated JP to a parasail ride at
Shangri-La Mactan. Little did I know that he had other plans to make
the thrilling ride extra special.

When we were up 150 to 250 meters high above sea level, we started reminiscing about how we met and how the Lord has been so good to us with all the confirmations. Then JP said, “Since we are here already… I want to ask you something” and got a small box from his right pocket. I was so happy to see the brand written on the box: Hearts and Arrows. Just what I wanted! Then for some reason, we were abruptly lifted up from 250 to 350 meters high!

JP suddenly felt like throwing up. His eyes were watery. He was turning red… and as he was about to throw up… HE DROPPED THE BOX!

He panicked. I panicked! I was caught in between comforting him because he was feeling sick and detaching myself from the parasail to dive into the water and look for the ring box!

As I was about to burst into tears.. he said, “You think I’m that stupid to drop the ring?” and got the ring that was tied to his shorts strings. I said, “Ah! Don’t do that to me again!” and he said, “Of course, this is your first and last chance” and I said “You haven’t even asked me anything!” so he said, “Will you marry me?” and without a doubt I replied, “YES!”

The view was clearly a present from God on our engagement. We knew He was there smiling at us all along. He definitely has a sense of humor by making JP’s drama more convincing because JP only planned to pretend to be sick but he really felt like throwing up when we were lifted up abruptly. His drama became so real! It’s a story that never fails to amaze our friends and family.

It’s also a story nice to retell over and over again until we have our kids and grandchildren. “How romantic and creative our dad/grandpa was!”
