The Phil. Wedding Industry:
A Year-End Report

The business aspect of wedding planning in the country got an extensive coverage in 2005. In June, Entrepreneur Philippines and Enterprise magazines had the booming bridal businesses for their cover story. Towards the end of the year, it was Newsbreak and Manila Bulletin's About Weddings' turn to feature the growth of the wedding industry the past couple of years. We bring back to you two of these worthy assessment of the current state of the industry: There's Big Dough in 'I Do's' by Lynda Corpuz and The To-dos Before the 'I Do' by Lala Rimando.

Happy Brithday, Boss!

Birthday greetings to our Big Boss. The One who made it all happen for us. The One who never failed in supporting us in everything that we do. Our site's success won't be as sweet without His guidance. Maraming salamat, Bosing!=)

Paying it forward...

In behalf of the W@W Community, we donated part of the proceeds in the W@W Christmas Auction to God's Work in Progress -- a group composed of 120 watch-your-car boys & girls from Barrio Kapitolyo & Pineda in the Pasig area together with a handful of young professionals dedicated to help inculcate positive values to these street children. They are sending their utmost appreciation for sharing our blessings with these kids, and wishing all of us a Christ-centered season and a New Year filled with God's wonderful blessings.

W@W ranks among Top Pinoy Sites!

W@W has consistently been ranking high as among the top Filipino websites. The site is currently ranked number 96 in Pinoy Top 40 and on the 109th spot in the Top Philippine Websites. Both rankings are based on three months of aggregated historical traffic data. In the country's blogging community, our W@W News Blog is also fairing very well. It's currently number 33 in Technorati's Philippine Top 100 Blogs and on the 43rd spot in Pinoy Top Blogs. To all the W@Wies, suppliers and our regular surfers -- thanks for making W@W the most relevant wedding website in the country! =)

iPod Wedding!

With the increasing popularity of DIY (do-it-yourself) wedding projects, it's no surprise that soon-to-weds are beginning to consider personalizing even their reception music. While the DJ/mobile industry would still be around, some couples are beginning to consider using their iPod to be their digital-DJ. Even celebrities like Alanis Morissette, who's engaged to actor Ryan Reynolds, has said during recent interviews that she may use an iPod at her wedding next year. Grooms, in particular, find that idea appealing. Want to learn more how you can wire you favorite gadget to play a part in your big day? Read this article...

We're some poet, and didn't it?!!

Well, not really poets but maybe more of... *searches Google for the proper word* 'accidental neologist,' if there's such a term. We just found out that our site has been mentioned in WordSpy as the 'source' for the word "soon-to-weds." Whoa! Hold on. We tried to verify and search for usage in the net and turns out that the almost all of the sites which uses it are about Filipino weddings. How come the rest of the world haven't even started picking up such a seemingly common term? We searched our entire site to see all the "soon-to-weds" references we've made it the past and found that our earliest use of the word maybe in the W@W eGroup description which we posted in 1999! Hmm... maybe we did coin it, but it sure wasn't intentional. But it's waaaaaaay cool to be credited for it (btw, feel free to burst our bubble in case you find out otherwise)! =)

Culture Vulture!

This postcard-perfect shot by Chito Cleofas best depicts what a traditional Pinoy wedding is all about. W@W stands out among other wedding planning websites because we devoted a whole section solely focused on the rituals and traditions of the Filipino kasalan. Our Culture section is actually the site's most popular next to our Directory. To make it more loaded of relevant contents, we have recently added two more features: one is the "Glossary of Kasal" which lists Filipino wedding terms and their meanings (we even had a little fun and scrambled the letters k-a-s-a-l to list some interesting Tagalog anagrams!); the other is "Elements of a Filipiņana-Themed Wedding" where we enumerate ideas and nice touches for soon-to-weds having Filipiniana wedding.

Jason the man!

Check out this AVP we've shown during The W@Wie Awards to formally announced this year's Top 10 wedding suppliers. Shot in his cozy Makati studio, observe the way Jason Magbanua floats, flips & turns the photos of the ten nominees to the beat of the music! It's actually a collaborative effort, with Madge Lejano (who debuts on the Top 10 this year) doing the make-up for all the nominees; and, Dino Lara (consistent Top 10 favorite for 3 years straight!) taking the stills. Take notice of Jason's VO (voice over) talent; try to put a finger on the accent faster than you can say: Hermione Granger! Enough with the talk, watch the video now!

Heaven on the 35th Floor

Last September, we posted an invite for submissions to "My Funny Love Affair" story writing contest as part of the Weddings.Get set.Go!!! Bridal Fair Year 3. Khu (ni Mike) -- another W@Wie -- won and bagged P20,000 worth of cash and prizes! They will tie-the-knot at Caleruega on the 15th. Read their story....

Just 'Meow'-rried!

Had to double-take on the bouquet? If you think there's some semblance to a famous feline, then that's no coincidence! One of our ever-reliable W@Wies who've assisted us in numerous bridal fairs -- Ivy (ni Gail) -- just got married last December 3. They had a unique and prrr-fect wedding by having Hello Kitty as a theme. And it's not just the flowers; the gown, the invites, the hairpiece and even the bridal car all has Hello Kitty & Dear Daniel accents that blended well with the over-all look of the wedding without being cheesy! See more pictures or head on to Threelogy's website to view the couple's on-site AVP. Congrats and wishing you the best, Gail & Ivy!

Designing Grooms!

*Gasp!* This bridal gown was made by five grooms-to-be. If that isn't metrosexual, we don't know what is. But wait... It gets better! This group of men barely knew each other but managed to finished this 'couture' in a matter of minutes! Hard to believe? We'll, W@W has been prodding grooms into doing this kind of stuff for the past three years as one of the major parlor games everyW@W Christmas Party. They were always pitted against the brides, female wedding suppliers and their male counterparts. This gown (like in the past) is based on an actual design by Mr. Joel Bautista. Instead of fabrics, threads, and beads -- the contestants were given rolls of tissue, adding machine tape, pins, thumbtacks and glue. Enlarge the pic to see the glorious details of their masterpiece (special thanks to Joven & Dione for the pic)!

Happy Birthday, AW!

About Weddings turns one! We are mighty glad to have been privileged to be a part of this worthy undertaking. We have seen the growth of this special monthly supplement of the Manila Bulletin from its inception and 12 issues hence. We are also proud that we were able to cope with the pressures of newspaper deadlines for our column while juggling our time to maintain this website, manage our own publications, and still keep the spirit of the W@W Community alive & well! In fact, we have just archived all our past Prep Talk into one neat section here in W@W for the convenience of our readers. Out on newsstands today, About Weddings' anniversary edition takes a peek into the growth of the wedding industry and how brides & grooms of today plan for the big day despite the setbacks in our economy. And that's just for the cover story! Congrats to the AW editorial team for a job well done!

Suppliers bit by Blog Bug!

A few months ago, we wrote about the growing number of brides maintaining a WedBlog (online journal). But we found out that there is now a number of wedding suppliers who are into blogging as well. Reading their entries are actually a good way of getting to know them a little better in a personal and/or professional level. Just among this year's Top 10 Suppliers, a significant number have blogsites: The Veluz Bride, threelogyblog, The Other Side of Dino Lara, and Mimi Abesamis' "Some Kind of Wonderful" while Karl de Leon has "fotogra and memories." Blog hop to these sites and read what's on their mind! =)
