AND THE UGLY: What you don't wanna happen

It is no secret that a wedding proposal involves some calculated risk. You don't actually ask (more so, in national TV!) if there's even a slim chance your girl may actually say 'NO'! This video here is no television ad but an actual proposal during a halftime break aired on television. If you're into happy endings, this could be a major downer, to say the least. We do not want to dampen anybody's 'wedding mood' nor humiliate the guy, but to simply state that these things happen. Watch at your own discretion.

THE BAD: How not to Propose

This one's sort of a love triangle. The guys on the video says all the right words... for the wrong reasons. But hey, it connects to its target market! hahaha! Watch the spot.

Sagada Boys!

"All work and no play make Jack a dull boy." Subtly hinting variations of that line with our respective understanding wives, four guys (that's me, Jason Magbanua, Bong of Threelogy, and our friend Denden) went up to Sagada two weeks ago for a much-needed break. And could an out-of-town adventure with a couple of wedding videographers be possible without a single videocam in tow? NO WAY! I'm not exactly thrilled of my experience with the spelunking part of the trip, but go watch the video anyway. =)

Tying-the-knot on a tight rope

(excerpt from Inq7.net) For some people, marriage could be as difficult as walking on a high wire. Not for Renier Atendido and Rowena Lopez who tied the knot while suspended about 10 feet above the ground. Atendido, 33, and Lopez, 27, who were wed on Saturday at the Quezon Memorial Circle, said they wanted to be the first couple to get married while walking on a tight rope. “In the end, it was perfect. We were happy everything went smoothly,” said Atendido who has been performing acrobatic stunts for 10 years. (read full article...)

Jewel Jusi in the Palace!

(excerpt from The Korea Times) The traditional Korean wedding hanbok is being given a new twist, with the use of indigenous Philippine fabrics. Filipino designer Nono Palmos gave his own interpretation of the hanbok by making use of unique hand-woven fabrics. In reinterpreting the hanbok, he used the hand-woven Philippine fabric called hablon, which is a combination of banana fiber (jusi), pineapple fiber (piña) and indigenous materials. The fabric looks stiff but elegant because of the gold-fibers running through it. Another hand-woven fabric used for the hanbok is the bagong habi-- a combination of pineapple fabric and dupion silk. Not June nor December, but May is the Wedding Month!

(excerpt from Manila Standard Today) "For four consecutive years, May, the month of flowers and festivals, was consistently the peak month for getting married," the National Statistics Office reported over the weekend. Riding on the fiesta season may be one of the factors that influenced the choice of couples to marry during this month. "The daily average of marriage occurrences during this month was 2,189," it said. The agency based its findings on figures on marriages officiated by priests, pastors, judges, mayors and others authorized by law in 2003. The study revealed that December ranked second with an average of 2,051 marriages a day, followed by January with 2,042. June only had 1,920 weddings a day, while August produced the least number of weddings with a daily average of 1,033 ceremonies. (read full article.)

SPBW Final Day - Sketches!

Here we share a couple of artists' sketches where some elements for our daughter's party were based. Joel Bautista's sketch for the gown was where the drawing in our invite and the design for the mini-bride centerpieces were based.

The elaborate cake design sketch didn't prepare us how grand the finished product turned out!

With the set design by Balay Kandila coupled with the thoroughness of Bangs Zaldivar who helped us pull things together, the party was truly the best for Kite! There are numerous other wedding suppliers who made the event a memorable one. You guys know who you are. Maraming salamat po!

SPBW Day 3 - More Pics!

One great thing of having photographer friends as guests during a party is that they usually take (really nice) pictures even if you don't expect them to. Dino Lara took a few snaps from the party and posted them in his blog. Chel Bautista of Pixel8 (hubby of Kay, a W@Wie turned events planner) took several pictures that we would also like to share here.

SPBW Day 2 - 'Moving Pictures'

Did we say just a day in our previous post? Let us correct that; it was more like Day 1. Today, we'd like to share the 'Moving Pictures' taken by our big (elder just doesn't sound right especially if we've just asked a favor) brother, Fol Rana, Jr. Read his blog entry as he recounted how he came up with his slideshow for the party and how it came out. You can also see the said AVP by clicking the link. Thanks kuya. Next time ulit ha! hehehe

Stage Parents' Blogging Day Week!

Since August is a lean month for Pinoy weddings, we hope you'd allow us to blog some personal stuff and be stage parents (once again). Our daughter Kite just turned seven last Saturday (Aug 5) with a Down-the-Aisle Party. She played the part of a Chief Flower Girl among friends in flower girl and bearer outfits in a make-believe wedding sans the bride & groom. Our friends from Threelogy covered the event and we'd like to share with you this wonderful onsite video they made for us and our guests.

Theme Time!

Tomorrow's (Aug. 5) edition of About Weddings features themed weddings. Making the cover story is the one-of-a-kind Lord of the Rings wedding that we have featured here before as photographed by our friend, Auey Santos. Also making the issue are several W@Wie weddings with unique themes like 'denim', 'booze', 'movies', 'Hello Kitty', 'stripes & dots' and (this year's favorite) 'pink & brown'. Be inspired and get some creative ideas! About Weddings comes out free with tomorrow's Manila Bulletin.
