Pinay maid planned a Celebrity Wedding!

Chinese actor/singer, Nicholas Tse, has recently admitted in an interview he married actress, Cecilia Cheung, in the Philippines. Rumors about their private wedding started to circulate in late September. Both starred in the Warner Brother's movie, The Promise. Nicolas said his Filipina maid, an IT doctorate, took two months planning his luxury surprise wedding set in the Palawan sunset last Sept. 18. He proposed on that same day and he said the shock stunned her for a good eight seconds before finally nodding yes! He said he booked half the island for nine days for the trip. They had 10 guests, including his Filipina maid and several award-winning lensmen on hand to document the occasion. We are assuming that the event's location was Amanpulo since the report stated that the island resort has hosted celebrities like Mariah Carey and that it is accessible only by private plane. Read this interesting news straight from the source.

If walls could talk...

There are lots of bare and boring walls in your reception hall. Oh, what to do? Cover it with backdrop or some indoor landscape. That could work but it will cost you. Why not try some Wedding Grafitti? As they said, you just "press it on, peel off backing, stand back and admire it!" The text and design is made of vinyl that wouldn't damage the paint on the wall. If the material they use here is the same as those used in customized car sticker kiosks we see in malls, then this could a DIY project to make your big day more special. Visit wonderfulgraffitiwedding.com and be inspired!

Winning Wedding Song!

A W@Wie has won the top prize in My Wedding Song songwriting competition which we announced here early this year. Jane (ni Oliver) feels truly blessed to be chosen as the grand winner! The composition, entitled "Ikaw Na Nga" is a song about finally finding the right person to spend the rest of her life with. It earned the nod of the jurors for its simple melody and the very honest sentiments of its lyrics. The song will be interpreted by wedding singer and former Tux man, Paulo Clemente. As part of the various prizes, the recorded track will be included in a CD compilation/giveaway for her own wedding. An awarding ceremony will be held at the Weddings... Get Set... Go!!! Bridal Fair Year IV to be held at The Rockwell Tent this weekend (Oct. 13-14). See you there!

W@Wsg 4 BTBs in SGP EB!

A few days ago, a number of Singapore-based W@Wies got together for an EB (eyeball meeting) to get to know the faces behind the emails. The EB has really bonded these b2b's (bride-to-be in W@Wie lingo) that we have decided to start another community especially for them and the growing number of soon-to-weds based in the Lion City. Now, there's W@Wsg! By the way, take notice of the girls' hand gesture in the picture on the left (click to enlarge). That's the not-so-secret code to let each other know that they are W@Wies when meeting the first time. *wink*

Are you in the Pink of Health?

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. In the Philippines, breast cancer is the number 1 killer among women. In fact, compared to the rest of Asia, we have the most number of breast cancer cases. What's more alarming is that cases of women in their 30s are becoming common. Early detection is the key in fighting the Big C. The good news is women find 90% of breast lumps on their own. The bad news is that it's estimated that only 33% of women actually perform routine Breast Self Exam (BSE). BSE should be performed on a monthly basis. For pre-menopausal women, the ideal time is 5-7 days after the last day of the menstrual period because this is the time when breasts are least lumpy and tender. This makes BSE more comfortable and also reduces the likelihood of a false alarm due to the finding of a lump resulting from cyclic changes.

Bling-blings for less ka-ching!

"Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue." Each item in this famous wedding rhyme represents a good-luck token for the bride. It is said that if she carries all of them on her wedding day, her marriage will be happy. So what's there to borrow? One unique concept gaining popularity in U.S. weddings nowadays is BorrowedBling.com. It's basically the same idea when Hollywood celebrities parade their 'on loan' bing-blings every Oscar night as they walk down the red carpet. This time, the same concept has invaded the other carpet that runs down the aisle. In fact, Manila has caught on with the fad as a recent post in our Classified Ads section reveals one local company offering this practical 'rent-a-diamond' service. Check it out!
