Pinoy Videographers continue to shine abroad!

Sometime in August, our very own Dominic Velaso of Imacron will be a resource speaker at the Wedding & Event Expo 2007 to be held in Las Vegas. His talk will be about "The Wedding Filmmaker: Adapting Film Techniques in Wedding Videography." Dom claims that the last time he stood before a live audience was during an elocution contest in 5th grade. To know more about the guy's beginnings and how he slowly penetrated the U.S. market, read this feature story.

Personalized photo balloons!

A couple of weeks ago, we got an email from a company called Premium Gifts Center which customizes and prints your picture on both sides of mini-mylar balloons. We got interested and inquired about this product. They promptly sent us an actual sample and it does look nice; but an order doesn't come cheap. We're still posting about it here in case somebody would be interested to have these unique balloons for a wedding or during a child's birthday party. Their website doesn't show samples of this specific product, but you may find their contact info there.

Some brotherly love!

Since it's his 41st 21st birthday today, we thought of giving our big brother something he'd (hopefully!) appreciate. You see, Fol Rana, Jr.'s blog has been nominated in the Blogger's Choice Awards. If you've been over F-stop and liked what you read and/or saw there, you may want to vote for it. Check out his blog entry to learn how. Happy birthday, Kuya! :)

Listen up!

Early this week, we got an SMS from Raffy Reyes -- host of the radio talk show called "Heard on Thursdays" over at Monster Radio RX 93.1. He invited us to guest on the program to talk about Pinoy weddings. Of course, we were excited but anxious at the same time. We've guested in another radio talk show before but nobody gets used to this kind of stuff. Having conversation is easy; but having people 'eavesdrop' on what you talk about on national radio just puts on a lot of pressure! Anyway, the show airs tonight. If you've got nothing to do around 9-10PM, tune in to RX or listen online via their live steaming.

Textures in Pictures

(photo by Paul Vincent) Hopping from one photographer's blog to another these past few days, we've observed what appeared to be an emerging trend: adding 'texture' in wedding photographs. The style is achived in post processing -- overlaying an (often subtle) image onto the main photograph. Thanks to Mimi & Karl, we've learned that this style is inspired by the award-winning works of Canadian photographer, Jesh de Rox. From what we've seen so far, we've noticed that past W@Wie Award winners are among the first in the local wedding scene to experiment with this style. Check out the recent blog entries of Dino Lara (Top 10 Supplier - '03, '04 & '05); Mimi Abesamis & Karl de Leon (Top 5 Supplier - '05 & '06); and Paul Vincent (Supplier of the Year - '06) to see their reditions of textured wedding photographs.

Majestic Churches!

(photo from Imagine Nation Photography) The Philippines abound of century-old churches but there are three which captivated us with their beauty and grandeur the moment we first saw them. For those planning a destination wedding or for soon-to-weds whose home province is where any of these majestic sites are located, this PrepTalk may be worth a read. :)

Human Rights #16

Don't let the subject matter turn you away. There won't be any BIG TALK here, we promise. But have you caught any of the Youth for Human Rights campaign spots over at ANC? We'll this is part of the series of 30 ads, but it tugs the heart in a different way. It'll sure you to give you that warm and fuzzy feeling. The kind that will (hopefully!) start your week right. Watch this video below.

A day in a life of a Pinoy videographer...

Julie Hill, a US-based videographer, recently visited the Philippines and followed our very own, Jason Magbanua during one Boracay wedding. Having had this cool and wonderful experience, she said, "I feel like a groupie simply because I'm going to see one of the most influential videographers in the world at work." It's interesting to read a foreigner's observation how her Pinoy counterpart do his job. It gives us a realistic glimpse of the hard work involved in covering an event. Read Julie's full article here.

Free Portrait Session!

Have you seen photographs where the subject is intentionally presented with obvious pores and skinfolds on the face and piercing eyes. It's the complete opposite of the airbrushed-look and the 'flaws' actually add to the realism and drama of the images. Fol Rana, Jr. has lately been experimenting on this style (called 'draganism' based on the works of Andrzej Dragan) and is offering free portraitures to the first 20 people who express their interest via his blog. Read his blog entry to know more about it!

Killer layouts!

Let's face it. In this age of digital photography, it's not enough that a wedding photographer takes good pictures. His/her album layout must also look nice to book potential clients. Different photographers may vary in the manner they design the pages of their albums, but don't they all basically look the same? That was the case until Mango Red decided to take wedding album layouts to an all-new different level. Imagine tasteful graphics, fancy texts and hand-drawn images sprinkled to spice up the photo pages. Just looking at them and you'd immediately know the hard work involved to finish just a single page. Check out an actual sample here.

Here's another Vespa Wedding!

(photo courtesy of Dino Lara) A quick look in W@W's Blogroll and it's immediately obvious that half of the entire W@W team (that's one among the two of us!) is crazy about Vespa scooters. We have actually blogged about these unique wedding rides last year. But when we learned of these newlyweds using a vintage Vespa for their big day, we just have to blog about it; especially since weddings like these come few and far in between. Check out here to know more about this Vespa wedding.
