The ring bearer fluttered by...

(photo by: Dino Lara) If you look closely, you'll see a butterfly which appears to be carrying an engagement ring (click pic for a bigger image). Surprisingly, there was no post process nor after-effects involved. So how exactly was this shot like this is orchestrated? Read Dino's comment here as he revealed how this 'gravity-defying' image was achieved. ;)

NSO insists on seminars for priests on wedding requirements

(via GMANews.tv) Despite resistance from the Archdiocese of Manila, the National Statistics Office (NSO) on Monday said it will push through with its seminars for priests on marriage processes and requirements. NSO administrator Carmelita Ericta cited errors in filling out marriage certificate forms and the proliferation of "instant marriage" ministers as the reasons for organizing the seminars. "We don't have a problem with Catholic priests except in the filling up of marriage certificates. We discovered 55,000 of these certificates were wrongly filled up, which could be a criminal offense. That is what we will teach in the seminar and I don't think that is taught in the seminaries," Ericta said in an interview on dzBB radio. Ericta said the NSO will push through with its seminar on February 12 and 14 for priests at the Archdiocese of Manila. [READ MORE...]

Cardinal Rosales to NSO: Priests know best in sanctifying marriage

(via GMANews.tv) Manila Archbishop Gaudencio Cardinal Rosales on Sunday said he was dismayed by recent move of the National Statistics Office (NSO) to require all solemnizing officers to undergo training before conducting any wedding ceremonies. "We understand the concern of NSO because we also know of abuses done by the so called ministers of the Gospel (not priests), but they should not be like that to us, as if we know nothing," Rosales said. According to Rosales, the Catholic Church had been performing marriage for more than 2,000 years now and it is really disheartening on their part. "The truth of the matter is we have been solemnizing weddings for 2,000 years already and now they are going to teach us how? Now we are going to see who is really more capable," Rosales said in an interview. Rosales, who is also the head of the Commission on Clergy of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) noted that while he understands the decision of the government, it should however not be made to appear as if they know nothing as priests. An artistic gesture of gratitude!

This is an illustration by Chris & Shirley -- a W@Wie couple who are both architects by profession. They did this drawing to thank all the suppliers who participated in the W@W Christmas Party. Here's their message: "We would need a bigger canvass to depict the fun, laughter and excitement during the last W@W party. We surely had a blast! 'Though not everybody is illustrated in this picture, everyone's contribution is truly appreciated. Thank you so much!" Check out the bigger image and try to spot some familiar faces seen at the party!

Check out this life-like Pinoy caketopper!

If you think the couple in the picture is for real, then look again! They're actually made of polymer clay made to look specifically like the couple. This work-of-art is masterfully done by US-based artist, Dawn Stubitsch of thumbprintkids.com, whose work we've featured in PrepTalk previously. The meticulous attention to detail for the groom's Barong Tagalog is particularly impressive. To better see the finer details of this kasalan-inspired caketopper, click to this page.

Gov't to bar priests from solemnizing weddings unless trained

(via CBCP News) The Catholic bishops' hierarchy scored a new government policy that will bar priests from solemnizing weddings if they fail to undergo government training on marriage laws. The Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines president Archbishop Angel Lagdameo said the topics to be taken up in the required seminar have long been part of the seminary curriculum. Lagdameo assured that priests are always updated with the marital laws of the land through their diocesan chancellors and with the help of canon law experts. The one-month preparation period required by the Catholic parishes before the celebration of marriages, he said, are intended to give ample time to fulfill both the church and civil requirements. "In view of this, the permanent council appeals for the cancellation of this required orientation seminar," said Lagdameo. [READ MORE...]

Attention: Wedding Guests!

If you got a wedding to attend to this month or next, then this one's for you. This is actually a previous article we've written for our PrepTalk column two years ago but remains relevant every year. We tackled some questions on every wedding guest's mind then tried to answer them. Soon-to-weds: feel free to send the link to your guests or cut & paste the article to post in your respective blogs or email to your guests. This may also serve as a sneaky way to tell your guests what you REALLY like as a wedding gift without actually telling it yourself. *wink* Read the article here.

A marriage proposal with Neil Gaiman!

Jason & Maui are big fans of internationally renowned sci-fi and fantasy author/writer, Neil Gaiman. One day, creativity struck and Jason had this wild idea: "What if I could get Neil Gaiman, our most fave author and fantasy writer, to help [me] propose to her?" He took the chance, contacted the author and got a response he never thought would ever come. The image on the left is proof of what has been accomplished: a book signed by the author proposing marriage in his behalf! It that wasn't enough, Neil Gaiman even posted in his online journal that this proposal is his favorite bit of his trip to the Philippines. Exactly how was this proposal planned and pulled-off successfully? You just have to read Jason's detailed account. For her part, Maui also recounts how Jason "ruined" her Neil Gaiman experience in her blog. ;) Our best wishes to the newly engaged couple!

Final sets of W@W Christmas Party Prenups!

(photo by Lito Genilo) December's an extremely busy time for all wedding suppliers. We thank the following photographers for still finding the time to post in their respective blogs/sites the prenup pics taken during the W@W Christmas Party last Nov. 23. Smart Shot posted images with their frame-in-frame concept. Metro Photo did a three-part blog including a contest for the 32 W@Wie couples they've photographed. Jayson Arquiza -- one of the Top 5 in the 2007 W@Wie Awards -- posted his thank you speech with his pre-nup images. Nice Print did a slideshow of the images (click 'Recent Engagement' then 'W@W Prenup Day'), while Joel Francisco and Imogen posted the pics in their respective multiply accounts. There are other photographers who participated but didn't have the time to upload the images. We'll provide the W@Wies their respective copies once the volunteers are done with the arduous task of sorting the thousands of images from all the 24 photographers. In the mean time, comment away to their sites, W@Wies! =)

Manila Pen says: "We're back!"

(exerpt from Inquirer.net) The Peninsula Manila announced it was reopening for business on Monday, four days after hotel operations were disrupted by its takeover by a group of rebel soldiers led by Navy lieutenant turned senator Antonio Trillanes IV. The hotel was to have been the venue that Thursday of the wedding reception of Ma. Estela Magpayo and Guderian Montaņo, son of retired general Ramon Montaņo, but the affair had to be transferred to another venue because of the incident. "The hotel intends to invite Mr. and Mrs. Montaņo to return for a weekend stay in a premier suite -- compliments of The Peninsula -- as a gesture of goodwill," the statement added. (READ MORE...)

"For better or worse, couple went ahead with 'shotgun' wedding"

...that's how the title read in this article which appearded in The Sydney Morning Herald about the Magpayo-Montaņo wedding scheduled at the Manila Pen the other day. Over at the Inquirer, the title read: "Rebellion with fine dining on the menu" about this same wedding directly affected due to the standoff between government forces and renegade soldiers led by opposition Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV, a former Navy lieutenant. Easily, this is the most written-about wedding covered by both the international & local media. And the best part is, the wedding still turned out beautifully despite the chaos and the literal last minuite changes. Check out part II of Dino's personal account and see how wonderful this wedding turned out despite what happened. Our heartfelt best wishes to Rian & Mars. You guys had one historic wedding!
