We're deeply saddened by the news that our friend the wedding singer, Paulo Clemente, has just passed away this evening. Papa Pau, as he is fondly called in the industry, brought his signature light-hearted humor and generally sunny disposition in the W@W-SDG (Suppliers' Discussion Group) community. Details of the interment will be posted in the comment box below as soon as they become available. Our deepest condolences to his daughter Angela and the rest of his Angel's Wink family. In his loving memory, we posted here his rendition of an original composition ("Someone Someday") that he willingly recorded for us gratis a couple of years ago. Your wonderful talent and 'BIG' presence will be sorely missed, Papa Pau! :'(

25 FEBRUARY 2008 A father's gift
Trina Ibarle (now Orquiza) was a W@Wie. For her wedding last year, her dad -- singer/songwriter Noel Milan -- wrote a song especially for her. Entitled "Letting Go," this original composition speaks of a father's fond memories of his daugther as he sends her off with his blessings. The moment we first heard it, it reminded us of Bob Carlisle's "Butterfly Kisses" which is another father-of-the-bride song. Click play to listen to Noel Milan's "Letting Go."

22 FEBRUARY 2008 Bride sues runaway groom
Forget what you've seen in the movie Runaway Bride! Here in the Philippines, jilting at the altar is a serious legal matter where the aggrieved party may file for civil damages. Such a case was filed yesterday in Cebu City where a would've-been-bride sued her groom for ditching her at the altar and walking out of the church with another woman during their supposed December 2007 wedding. This kind of news is not the typical happy & romantic story we usually feature in our blog but, although it's isolated, it sadly happens. Couples should do a reality check before deciding to taking the plunge. As for the said case, read the ex-couple's painful story here.

16 FEBRUARY 2008 PrepTalk update!
Starting this month, PrepTalk will be appearing within the pages of the new Lifestyle section of Manila Bulletin. After more than three years, About Weddings had to retire to make way for the consolidation of all the different MB Lifestyle sections/titles. Thus, part 2 of our 2008 Weddings of the Year appears in the main Lifestyle pages (section C) of today's edition. FYI. :)
(excerpt from Glenn Pamplona's personal account) Weddings have traditionally been the bride's kind of thing. But having known a couple of male friends who themselves got their hands dirty with the bridal DIY glue, I was somehow encouraged that there is nothing wrong with me for being excited with all of these. I am proud to say that I am a hands-on groom. I was the one who found my bride's make-up artist, discussed the design of our unity candles with our online vendor, surfed the net for the perfect venue for our prenuptial pictorials, and a lot more, to the point that Janice claims I have done 90% of the work. 12 FEBRUARY 2008 Fewer Filipino couples getting, staying married
(excerpt from Manila Standard Today) A government study contradicts widely held beliefs that more people are getting married, that most people have a Catholic marriage, that couples prefer June as the month of their wedding, and that there is no divorce in the Philippines.
In fact, the number of marriages in the Philippines has been declining as far as the years 2003 and 2004 are concerned, according to the National Statistics Office. It says 582,281 marriages were solemnized in 2004—a 1.9 percent decline from the 593,553 marriages reported in 2003.
The median age for marrying for brides and grooms was 24.7 and 27.4 years, respectively, indicating that women tend to marry earlier than men, the agency says. And marriages solemnized under civil rites (276,233 or 47.4 percent) exceeded the number of marriages solemnized in Catholic churches (212,236 or 36.4 percent) [READ MORE...]

04 FEBRUARY 2008 Rocking the 1st world!
We've read that the buzz about Jason’s talk in Florida can still be encountered in international videographers' forums. One particular review said this about him: "A speaker of great extemporaneous charm and charisma, Magbanua took his rapt SRO audience on a whirlwind tour of his own special brand of wedding video."
Right on the heels of Jason's stint was Dom of Imacron's talk at the WEVA Winter Convention in Vegas which further boosted the Philippines' rock-solid reputation as a hub of world-class wedding videographers. Their recent Artistic Achievement Awards -- where Jason bagged six and Imacron won four -- is a testament to that. Check out the links to their winning videos below to view them.
