Two Decembers ago, we wrote about “The Best Weddings of 2006.” We’re doing it again for last year’s most memorable weddings in the eyes of the very people who helped these newlyweds achieve the wedding of their dreams.
For this feature, we asked fourteen of the more popular suppliers in WeddingsAtWork.com – our online community’s five previous Supplier of the Year winners and the Top 10 Wedding Suppliers in the 2007 W@Wie Awards.
And what made them choose these as their Wedding of the Year? Some because of their rapport with the couples, some because of the soon-to-weds creativity, while others because of the unforgettable creations they did for the event. Here are last year’s most memorable weddings.
Suppliers' Top Picks
Jeremy Chin & Joanne Woo
March 15, 2007
Sheraton Moana Surfrider Hotel, Honolulu, Hawaii

There's something about shooting a wedding an ocean away from where you live. From several destination weddings we've covered in 2007, we have chosen Jeremy and Joanne's as our wedding of the year because it was our first international coverage.
The wedding was held at the oldest hotel in Honolulu with about 20 guests in attendance. The bride walked down the aisle as a yukelele player sang the traditional Hawaiian wedding song. And the ceremony was as short as the guest list. The couple just exchanged rings offered traditional leis to each other. It was indeed a memorable wedding for us.

Buck Sia & Dulce Teo
December 16, 2007
Santuario de San Jose

Buck & Dulce were open and game for things to be different. Even their cake really looks different, I thought it was a projector!
A wedding doesn't have to be traditional as long as love stays true and the ceremony stays solemn. It doesn't hurt if you dare to be different.

Marc Pingris & Danica Sotto
March 3, 2007
The Palms Golf & Country Club

Showbiz, high visibility, beautiful couple. But more than the obvious reasons, it was their level headedness and humility that touched my heart. They can afford more but they never flaunted. It wasn't like a production number.
Everyone of them, from the couple to the guests were there to experience the true essence of a wedding. It was just simply perfect in every way.

2005 W@W Supplier fo the Year
John Lao & Trixie Guevarra
Christ the King | Hyatt Hotel and Casino
December 9, 2007

Themed weddings are a rarity nowadays, and rarer still are the couples who can pull it off. John and Trixie are one of them.
Theirs was a Victorian Masquerade executed with very fine detail. I couldn't honestly think of anyone else pulling it off. The gown was flamboyant, excessive, and gorgeous. Trixie was stunning in it. Only John could have worn a gold suit with matching shoes and still look macho.
But the embellishments were exactly just that, add-ons and trappings, at the heart of it all was a tearful ceremony and two people who can't wait to marry each other. ~ Jason Magbanua

2005 W@W Supplier fo the Year

Marc Pingris & Danica Sotto
March 3, 2007
The Palms Golf & Country Club

As a supplier,
working with celebrities is a great opportunity to showcase my
product. The 5-layer cake that I made for Danica and Marc was
extra special - it was decorated with real flowers, decorative
butterflies and an assortment of fruits (some of which had intricate
carvings). And the best part was everything was edible! Except,
of course, for the flowers and butterflies.

2004 W@W Supplier fo the Year

Wilson So Hu & Nona Diaz
December 16, 2007
1Esplanade

Wilson and Nona make a lovely couple because they complement each other’s taste and it was evident when they planned for their December wedding. The choices they made for their wedding details had splendid, classy results.
Both of them were very patient, persistent and gracious even when pre-wedding jitters usually get the most out of other couples. They were so cool and composed and they were able to breeze through their moment with radiating joy nobody would guess the stress behind the pre-production.
When two people are made for each other, like this couple, their love will resonate and overshadow all other things and that’s really all that matters. ~ Josiah’s Catering

Fabrizio Piuso & Marisse Antonio
Caleruega | Taal Vista
March 10, 2007

We pick them to be our wedding of the year because they did give us one of the best upstarts for 2007. Output-wise, we had a blast. Our portrait sessions were one of the best we had at Caleruega.
By the way, we're proud to say that they were our first Tagaytay wedding destination, our first Caleruega (Transfiguration Chapel) wedding, and our first Taal Vista wedding reception.
Fabri is Italian and Marisse is a Pinay bride. At first, Fabri thought that wedding photos in the Philippines would just be plain portraits and church photos and he was surprised at the number of shots we were clicking. Of course, Pinoy are such picture addicts! It was indeed a challenge to put the groom in his comfort zone. We were fortunate to have snapshots of Fabri in his relaxed "all smile" photos. We also did capture a lot of emotions during the wedding and it was very heartfelt.
Personally, their online slideshow still gives me the chills whenever I watch it. I believe that we've showcased their wedding photos at a very high level that later produced a lot of good feedbacks especially from their friends abroad.
We again saw each other last December 14, 2007 at her Maid of Honor's wedding. Fabri and Marisse are now expecting a baby. We are very happy for both of them and thankful enough to be part of such a memorable wedding. ~ Jayson Arquiza

Edwin Dumlao & Gina Delos Santos
Sts. Peter and Paul Parish, Ormoc City
December 30, 2007
photo by Jake Cortes and Jim Ubalde
Edwin & Gina’s wedding elevated itself amongst one of the most memorable for me. Their effort is spontaneous. It was timeless and almost ecstatic.
The wedding participants of both parties, though coming from different lands, freely arrive regardless of boundary. Their rapport is natural.
The celebration, from the ceremony down to the parting of the guests, brought awe and bliss that resided in me to this day. Mere thought of the event brings a sense that the feeling never left. Truly, it’s my wedding of the year. ~ Cecilio Abad

Sam Keller & Pascaline Cure
November 9, 2007
Lagen Island, El Nido Resorts, Palawan

The place alone is breathtaking. The wedding was intimate. They had around 50 guests -- all expenses paid. Just imagine… El Nido! Indeed very unique.
Everyone had pre-dinner at the sand bar and exquisite area for the ceremony at Pangalusian Island. Lovely couple! ~ Nelwin Uy

Jay Lara & Cathy Paras
November 24, 2007
St. James the Great | The Peninsula Manila

We consider 2007 a fun year, and with that in mind, we pick clickthecity.com's Jay and Cathy as our wedding of the year.
From Makati to Alabang and back trips amidst the heavy Saturday traffic made easy by 8 motorcycled escorts, to the officiating priest's "Jay, it's okay. It's your first time" comment as Jay was starting to breakdown during the ceremony, up to the non-stop partying that took place hours after the reception program has ended, that day was just all fun!

Sherwin Go & Kaye Ong
September 23,2007
Hotel Sofitel

I chose their wedding to be my wedding of the year because I was very pleased with how their cake turned out.
When we were just designing their cake, i wasn’t sure if they understood how I envisioned their cake to be. Not only that, I haven’t done anything like it but I wasn’t able to show them what the final cake would look like.. They trusted and believed in me 100%! That gave me the inspiration to really do the best that I can!
Thus, the final product is their Grand Victorian Cake! Even I was amazed at my ability after my set up! Up to this date their cake still remains to be one of my favorites! ~ Sugarbox

PJ Mungcal & Abi Souza
June 23, 2007
Santuario de San Antonio

About a year and a half before their wedding, Abi & PJ went to Baguio to give a testimony for the Couples for Christ convention. PJ 's dad introduced Abi to the audience saying that he would be very happy to have Abi as his daughter-in-law. The following day, PJ proposed and Abi said "yes". The day after, PJ's family rushed his dad to the hospital. PJ's dad passed away immediately after that, without knowing that PJ proposed to Abi and that Abi would indeed be his daughter-in-law.
PJ and Abi gave a touching tribute for PJ's dad, whom they said helped them even from heaven. Upon learning that PJ was his dad's son, the Franciscan priests gave the use of Santuario de San Antonio as a gift.
The couple worked very hard to achieve the wedding of their dreams, starting with the supplier bookings up to the littlest details. No, they didn't have a glitch-free wedding but one could feel the love in the air during the ceremony and the reception, and that, I think, is the most important. ~ An Event to Remember

Angel Diokno & Selle Felizardo
January 20, 2007
Bella Vista, Tagaytay
This couple booked us for an American backyard, spring-themed wedding at Bella Vista, Tagaytay slated at 6:30 in the morning. At first we thought they were kidding but they were not and so come wedding day, we started to shoot at 3 am, our earliest shoot to date.
The wedding of Selle and Dyoks was a very personal wedding... not grand... not big... but something simple and uniquely them. Wanting to feel the whole experience, the couple prepared the wedding all by themselves, deciding not to get a coordinator. They were very detailed, meticulous and hands-on from day one until the very day itself. From invites to reception gimmicks and everything else in-between, the couple showcased their creativity and put their personal stamp on their wedding which all the more made it beautiful.
Weddings are about love and this one was overflowing with it. Love from friends who involved themselves for free by customizing the couple's unity candle, acting as officiant, musicians, emcees and on-the-day coordinators. Love from God who let His glory shine on a wedding which had no plan B in case it rained. Love for each other which was highlighted by their emotional exchange of vows.
Kind-hearted and spiritual, they went way beyond the typical supplier-client relationship and treated their suppliers as friends... something that their caterer, makeup artist and photographer can attest to as well.
True to being a friend, they always have nothing but high praises of my work as evident by their several referrals and our sudden recognition in the W@W community this year.
Intimate. Emotion-filled. Simple yet elegant.
When none of the guests are late for a sunrise, out-of-town wedding then it has got to be a very special affair.
Yes, it was very special indeed. A wedding we will never forget. ~ Bob Nicolas

Arnil Roldan & Kathy Villa
October 18, 2007
St. James the Great Parish | The Palms Country Club
This couple got everything right. The wedding is all about them and their commitment to remain together in God and in love. The reception was all about friendship, family, and a wonderful time together before leaving for New York.
Though there were challenges during the preps (both are doctors with hectic schedules and Kathy’s dad fell ill and had to stay in the ICU for a few days, about a week or so before their big day), Arnil and Kathy, with the help of their family and friends, saw through everything together and the end result was perfection: a surprise childhood-to-present photo slideshow of Kathy made and serenaded by Arnil; a song performance by Kathy for her groom.
To top the presentations, Arnil and Kathy shared the sweetest first dance I ever saw. There is no other word to describe their wedding other than beautiful. ~ Melissa Ferrer-Litao
