(excerpt from Inquirer.net There are couples who seal their relationship by marrying “in secret” before one party immigrates. This happens when they enter into a marriage either before a judge or any person authorized to solemnize marriage. There are those who are under the impression that this is simply “ceremonial” in nature and that the marriage contract is not registered with the civil registrar. To their surprise, most marriages are registered and these marriages are considered valid under the law.
Some applicants (Pinoys going abroad) hold on to a mistaken view of a “secret marriage” and deny its existence during the interview on applications for naturalization, work, or even during adjustment of status.

hi..I would like to know what troubles we would get into (aside from our parents getting mad at us for not telling them) if we have a “secret wedding”..we’re not going anywhere outside the country..we just want to be legally married before my dad could get a chance to take me away from my beloved boyfriend..we’re kinda having a “Romeo & Juliet” situation so we want to get married secretly so that there’s nothing they could do to separate us anymore..
please help..thanks!
