Another gown designer took home the “W@Wie”!
From up the stage, we could see Cecilio Abad as his name was announced. We saw how all the girls he dressed-up went around him to kiss, hug and wipe his tears away (parang Miss U!). We also saw how all the photographers aimed their lenses to that table to capture the moment.
Cecil was still in tears as he made his acceptance speech. What made it more touching was that he brought his whole staff with him up the stage. He also made mention of how Veluz (2005 Supplier of the Year) helped him in running his couture business. Truly, a testament of the industry’s community spirit which is essentially the “theme” of the whole event.
We asked Bob Nicolas to do the W@Wie Awards AVP for this year. To say that Bob simply delivered is a great disservice to the guy. He (with his wife Lette) rented a state-of-the-art studio for the interview of the Top 10, and even went to actual weddings (not his clients’) just to capture clips of these suppliers at work. Really, the guy is always all about pushing the limit.

But before we announced the 2008 Supplier of the Year (SOTY), we called up on stage the past SOTY winners (from 2003 to 2007) to elevate them to the Hall of Fame. A video was shown to honor them especially done for us by Threelogy. It’s basically a montage of photos and text. Boring right? But not when it’s made by these guys. See what I mean…

Immediately after that, the winner was announced through this video and this humble guy from Ormoc went up the to join the Hall of Famers. Same surrealism. Same stage. Same trophy.

My heartfelt congratulations to Mr. Cecilio Abad for being chosen as Top Supplier of the Year 2008. I was silently rooting for this guy because (unlike me) he has earned this and, as it were, truly deserves this award.
I had the privilege of conducting the interviews of all the other Top Ten nominees (and hohoho! si Cecilio ang nag-interbyu saken, kaya puro walang kwenta mga sagot ko). Too bad that you could not see the entire interview clip, because you would have realized (as i did) how pure and wonderful a person Cecilio is. He talked about his humble beginnings, his desire to uplift his family’s lives by his work, his dedication to his craft and his plans for the future.
Cecil, congrats ulit. Pasakay sa Montero Sport mo pag nabili mo na ha? hehehehe!!
Congrats din kay Jayson, Kaye, Jet, Bim, Charisse, Clarice, Edge/Nadia, and yung Tatlong Itlog (a.k.a. JR, Johnson and Bong of Threelogy).

Kudos to Cecilio Abad and to the Top 5 Suppliers! I really enjoyed watching the videos made by Jason Magbanua, Threelogy and Bob Nicolas.

Am sure each supplier have their own backstory to share am just so glad Bob was able to get Veluz to share about Cecil Abad, madami pa yang kwento.

Congrats Cecil! Kitangkita na ikaw panalo kse may letter C sa damit mo. Galing ng shot nakuha yung pagfall ng confetti na nagform ng letter C sa shirt ni Cecil. Again congratulations!

Si Cecil nanalo kasi super well loved siya ng W@Wies.
This is the process for winning.
Current W@Wies each nominate 5 names for Supplier of the Year. We then get the Top 10 names nominated (they are the Top 10 Awardees) then score goes back to zero then they get to vote 3 names from the Top 10 list, from there we get the Top5 and Supplier of the Year.
