(via ABS-CBNnews.com) Young actress LJ Moreno is now married.

LJ Moreno, niece of actress Alma Moreno, tied the knot with star cager Jimmy Alapag on Thursday, August 19.

The private and simple wedding was held at the Laguna Beach in California, USA.

The ceremony was attended by the couple’s families and closest friends.

One of Moreno’s closest friends who attended the wedding was sultry actress Ruffa Mae Quinto.

Moreno and Alapag were sweethearts for more than 4 years but in 2008, a serious problem rocked their relationship. They broke up but reconciled after a year.

“I’m glad that I waited this long, I know it’s right and this is just meant to be. Baby this is it, finally we are here. I’m gonna make our home a happy place to come home so you will always gonna want to come home and I promise to be a great mom to our kids, I love you,” Moreno said in an interview with The Buzz’s correspondents Monet Lu.

“I think in any relationship there are always challenges but it made us stronger. I’m honored to have all our families and friends here to share the day with LJ and I,” Alapag added.

(Joseph Santos, 28, right, a.k.a., the “Miracle Baby,” is shown with his fiance Micaela Sando, 24. Joseph, was given the “miracle baby” title after he and his twin brother, Jason, were born almost four months premature. Their mother, Purita, went into labor while on a flight from Guam to Hawaii. Now, nearly 28-years after the event, Joseph will be getting married on Saturday, March 27 | photo & story excerpted from ocregister.com)

The year was 1982.

The sweat was beading on Purita Santos’ forehead. She had just come from a wedding in the Philippines – her and her husband’s homeland – and this little spell was killing the euphoria.

The 35-year-old mother of two, who was again five-and-a-half months pregnant – this time with twins – was in an uncomfortable spot on a Pan Am flight from Guam to Hawaii.

Pains were shooting through her lower back. She was trying to stave off the contractions by propping her legs up on the seat-back tray in front of her.

A stewardess eventually asked for a doctor. There were two on board. Purita Santos repeated to herself that she couldn’t have the babies on the plane – or for another three months.

But once the plane touched down in Honolulu, and her water broke in the hospital, there was no denying that the babies were going to arrive early.

Baby Jason, at 1 lb. 9 1/2 oz., came first. Head first. He didn’t cry.

Baby Joseph, at 1 lb. 7 oz., came feet first. He cried very little, and very quietly.

The doctors thought Joseph Santos would go blind from the oxygen they pumped into the incubator when he was born.

His twin brother, Jason, older by a minute or so, only lived for two hours. Doctors gave Joseph less than a one-in-50 chance of survival.

They said he might never walk, and there was the possibility that he would never talk, too.

Santos, who weighed under two pounds when he was born prematurely, was at one time hailed as Orange County’s “Miracle Baby” by local media.

Doctors first gave him only a few hours to live. Little did they know on Jan. 17, 1982 that about 247,100 hours later he’d still be here.

On Saturday, Santos will join his beautiful bride at the altar. He’ll say his vows, and promise to be hers forever.

Sometimes, miracles do happen. [READ FULL STORY…]

Oliver Tolentino

oscars-designers-challenge.jpg(via inquirer.net) BEVERLY HILLS —“I’m still awestruck. I feel like I’m in a dream,” Oliver Tolentino admitted after he and eight other designers were about to be introduced to the fashion and entertainment press as the finalists in the Oscars Designer Challenge 2010.

The Filipino designer said, “I, a province boy who grew up in little Orani, Bataan, am at the Academy headquarters before the international press for the presentation of my gown that might be worn on the stage of the Oscars? Someone should pinch me!” Oliver stood beside his gown entry, draped on a hanger, which is an ivory piña (pineapple fabric) and abaca fiber mermaid gown with freshwater pearl detail.

Reporters and photographers admired Oliver’s exquisite creation. We heard Oliver extol the beauty and quality of our piña and abaca fabrics to every journalist who interviewed him. TV star, Queer Eye for the Straight Guy’s Carson Kressley (host of Oscar’s exclusive web series, ‘Behind the Dress’ which premieres March 3rd) couldn’t help but admire the black abaca blazer that Oliver wore (his own creation). “I want one!” said Carson.

The winning gown, to be determined by online voting, will be worn by one of the awards escorts onstage at the Academy Awards on March 7, while its designer and his guest will get to attend the prestigious show. [READ MORE…]

Mich Dulce

mich_dulce.jpg(via philstar.com) LONDON – From a tropical country where few people wear hats, a Filipino fashion designer and milliner, actress and musician has won the British Council’s Young Fashion Entrepreneur (YFE) Award for 2010.

Mich Dulce bested 10 competitors from Bangladesh, India, Libya, Lithuania, Russia, Sri Lanka, Syria and Turkey to become the first Filipino to be honored with the prize.

Judges and the public raved not only about her designs, but about her use of indigenous materials, including sinamay and abaca, the latter a material the British associate with rope, said Leslie Stokes, chairman of the British Council Philippines, which sponsored the local search for the YFE.

Dulce’s fashion business, which started out on eccentric frocks and dresses, has now expanded to hats, headpieces, corsetry and bridal wear. Her unique style has been featured on “Young Asian Fashion Designers” published by Daab Publishing in Germany.

Along with her title, Mich gets a £5,000 grant for a collaborative project with the British Council. [READ MORE…]

In last weekend’s edition of the Inquirer, wedding photographer Patrick Uy was featured in an article which retold his experience when he was invited to photograph the coronation of the king of Bhutan in words and pictures

Here’s an excerpt:

Patrick Uy is a name synonymous with weddings. Since the early ’90s when Patrick began a photography career, his services have been in high demand.

He has photographed many celebrity weddings, including those of Aga Muhlach and Charlene Gonzales, Jackie Ejercito and Beaver Lopez, and those of Mikey and Dato Arroyo, sons President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

In November 2008, Patrick added yet another feather to his cap when he was invited to photograph the Bhutan king’s coronation. With wife Evelyn and colleagues John Tronco and Philip Santos, he went to Bhutan to document the festivities.

Patrick said that the journey to Bhutan actually began in a wedding in Boracay. Fellow photographer John Tronco shot photographs for the Vietnamese groom who, it turned out, was a good friend of Bhutan’s King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck. In time came the invitation to “shoot” the enthronement ceremony.

“It was part of our karma that our weekend was free – that same weekend of the coronation. So off we went, for the shoot of a lifetime!” said Patrick. [READ MORE…]

Dancing Down the Aisle! (maybe not for the ultra religious)
Thursday, July 23rd, 2009

The link to the YouTube video below was shared to us by Cristina Roman via wall post on W@W’s FB fan page.  We warn though that clip may offend the sensibilities of the religious. We’re sharing this to amuse our readers, NOT to promote the concept.  Viewers discretion is advised. :)

But I must say the ‘march’ of the bride & groom (Jill Peterson and Kevin Heinz of St. Paul, Minnesota) as led by their entire wedding party to the tune  of Chris Brown’s “Forever” was unique at the very least; and pure unadulterated heretic wedtertainemnt at best! hahaha! :D

It sure did start the big day with a BANG!  They made the aisle as dancefloor or fashion runway. Who’d have thought any church would ever allow that? ;)

Pulling a stunt like this in a wedding here in the Philippines just won’t fly.  Our elderly loved ones and church leaders might have a heart attack seeing something like that, and no God-fearing Filipino would accidentally kill anybody, moreso on one’s own wedding day. :)
