W@W coin for the arrhae?
Thursday, August 26th, 2010

I was scanning the thumbnails of Benz’s tagged photos in Facebook when a particular picture got me curious, that I just had to click for a larger view.   Here’s what I saw…

This shot was taken Pat Dy from Choy Nuñez & Jill Sabalo’s wedding.  Jill is a W@Wie and admits that she loves W@W, hence the inclusion of the W@W commemorative coin as part of the wedding arrhae.

In the blog entry of the couple’s wedding planner (Ernest Pascual of Events! Events!), this photo caption appears:

The wooden arrhae box with gold and silver metal plate carving matched the theme. The arrhae was composed of six coins from 1980 - the year when Choy was born, plus six coins from 1982 - the year when Jill was born, and one coin from W@W.

What a great idea!

I agree with Benz that it’s indeed heartwarming to see a W@Wie like the coin so much to even include it in the arrhae for her own wedding.  We had the W@W commemorative coin minted as a souvenir for our site’s 10th anniversary celebration last year.

Below is a more detailed look of the W@W coin in this short clip done for us by Phoeben Teocson.

Couple held wedding reception at McDonald’s!

On June 5, 2010, Roger Francis Alcantara and Noemi Katrina dela Paz (Roj & 3na to the W@Wies) tied the knot at the Mary Immaculate Parish, better known as ‘Nature Church’ in Las Piñas City.  But what got their nuptials featured in Manila Bulletin was the fact that they held their reception in a McDonald’s outlet!

Below is an excerpt from the said article:

With “I do’s” already exchanged, the newly-married couple treated their guests to the brand of fast food that they both love. Yes, the wedding reception – or “recess,” as the couple likes to call it – took place at a McDonald’s branch along Alabang-Zapote road.

It was a wedding party that was like a children’s party — and perhaps the first-ever wedding reception in a McDonald’s outlet — with an even more playful twist.

The chocolate wedding cake (by Truffle Park Co.) was fashioned to look like a Big Mac, McDonald’s flagship double-layered burger; instead of Roger and Noemi, two McDonald’s mascots were made to do the traditional Filipino Catholic wedding “money dance” while the 120 or so guests who filled the particular branch took home popular “Happy Meal” toys.

And to symbolize their union in a way utterly unique and special to them, the couple ditched the cake-tasting ceremony in favor of taking simultaneous bites out of a Big Mac.

“It was the best bite out of a Big Mac that I’ve ever had in my entire life,” said the groom. You’d better believe him; he’s had countless Big Macs in his burger-munching career. [READ FULL STORY…]

In her email posted in the W@W eGroup, 3na shared that she and her groom even went through the drive-thru window with their entourage in tow.

In sharing their story, the bride said, “I hope this serves as an inspiration to all the future brides out there. The best pa rin if you make the wedding your own.  Don’t mind what other people say, kasi kami nung una, ilang beses kaming tinanong ng parents namin kung sa McDo ba talaga kami; and they ended up enjoying the party as much as we did.”

The groom’s advice is best shared with his quote in the Bulletin article: “My advice to other couples who want to tie the knot is to personalize their nuptial, if they can,” said Roj. “Why become like a million others, if you can become one in a million?”

A Wedding Proposal Story: Floating on Cloud 9 while diving underwater!
Monday, April 26th, 2010

Meet Mark & Anna.

The two are college sweethearts who have been together for about 10 years already.

Sometime last year, on a weekend he had work, she scheduled a diving trip in Anilao, Batangas with friends. For their last dive, Anna was instructed by her diving buddy to follow 30 feet underwater. When they got there, here’s what she saw…

… a tarp with her name and the words “WILL YOU MARRY ME??”

Then she saw this guy in his dive mask kneeling on the seabed with a bouquet of flowers. It could only be Mark!  After she signaled ‘YES’ to him, he handed her the ring attached to a string and to his BCD (buoyancy control device).  He also gave her tarpaulin that had ‘YES’ on it. Afterall, nobody really expect to hear that sweet word underwater. :)

As soon as they surfaced, this first thing she uttered to him wasn’t a verbal yes, but “Are you okay?”

Turns out, Mark is no swimmer.  Despite that, he willingly took diving lessons (behind her back) specifically for this proposal.  The lengths some men go through just to pop THE question never cease to amaze.

“People asked me how I felt that day and I always have the same answer. I was in cloud nine and the experience was surreal,” Anna said.  The engaged couple is set to have a ten-ten-te-ten (10.10.10) wedding.

Cheers to soon-to-weds! :)

A firetruck for a bridal car!
Monday, April 19th, 2010

We’re not kidding!

Last night, we saw this picture posted by event stylist Teddy Manuel.  It got us curious. :)

As soon as we saw it, we immediately thought the groom’s probably a volunteer firefighter. We were sooo wrong.

It was actually the bride who’s in the fire brigade (she’s a volunteer firemedic)! COOL.

The bride is actually Kimberly Tan — the wedding host!  And she just got married to Gerald Evangelista yesterday. Here’s a shot of the kissing newlyweds atop the firetruck.  Some stunt! :D

Cheers to Kimerald!  (sorry, couldn’t resist typing that).  ;)

Linear Portraits by Eric Cachero
Monday, March 1st, 2010

Eric Cachero is a visual artist whose body of work consists of paintings, sketches, graphics and other commercial design works.

My initial encounter of Eric’s work wasn’t through an art gallery.  On the contrary, it was via the wall photos/profile pics of a couple of mutual friends in Facebook.  And those led me to his album full of line art like the ones below.

To me, the images looked like the headshots seen along the bylines of newspaper columnists. So impressed that I sent Eric a private message to ask if he’d be willing to do the same for soon-to-weds who may be interested to have their portraits done by him.  I figured some couples may want to have their line drawings printed on their wedding invite or in their souvenir mug or something.

For a simple sketch such as those above, it cost P1,500/person (plus P500/additional person). Aside from a soft copy/digital output, he’ll also hand a 12 x 15 hard copy in Giclee prints.  All he needs is a clear and high resolution photograph of the subject. He can produce the artwork in a matter of days after client’s approval.

By the way, in the course of our correspondence, Eric told he’ll draw me. That got me excited! We haven’t met, and simply based the sketch in one of my photo is FB.  I must say, he did a pretty amazing job with accurate facial hair and all.  Now, my FB profile proudly displays one of his artworks.  :)

Checkout Eric Cachero’s FB profile to see some of the linear artworks he has done. You can send him a private message from there or you can contact is mobile number: 0918.916.2895.
